The Old Boys Collegians Premier Women have halted the six-year streak of Lancaster Park by claiming the Premier Women’s One-Day competition!
Our Women batted first and played steadily throughout their 50 overs to post 188/8. Lucy Boucher top scored with a crucial 46, but there were contributions throughout with Abby Gerken (34) and Meg Lay (33*) both fighting hard to help OBC post a very defendable total.
With runs on the board, our Women were fizzed up and ready for the challenge with ball in hand as they saw their opportunity to bring home the silverware. A fantastic display of fast bowling was on display from our very own Missy Banks (OBCCC Premier Women’s Captain and Canterbury Magician), as she destroyed Lancaster Park’s hopes of chasing down OBC’s total – with early wickets proving to be key and ultimately deciding the game. Missy’s outstanding 5/19 off her 6.3 overs made her an easy chose for Player of the Match, with her opening spell running through Lancaster Park’s top order – reducing them to 16/4 after just 5.5 overs. A few wickets from Tatiana Gibbs helped OBC as they continued to pick up timely breakthroughs – with Missy (fittingly) claiming the final wicket to bowl Lancaster Park out for 97 in 25 overs and secure a convincing OBC win, with a margin of 91 runs
Old Boys Collegians 188/8 (Lucy Boucher 46, Abby Gerken 34, Meg Lay 33*) beat Lancaster Park 97/10 (Missy Banks 5/19 Tatiana Gibbs 2/16) by 91 runs
